Partnership in Action

Collaborating with our schools and community partners is paramount for the success of our Nourish the Need Food Backpack program. According to Feeding America, in our service area 1 of 4 children are food insecure; nationwide 13 million children face hunger. The need is great. One option that our partners utilize to enhance our program is hosting annual food drives. Seven (7) of our partners hosted food drives during the first semester of the 2017 – 2018 school year.

The alliance with our partners also improves program efficiency and sustainability. We’ve gained efficiencies by narrowing our process to a few steps. 1) Throughout the school year school social workers select the children to receive food on weekends – reducing the possibility of food waste. 2) Land of Promise (LOP), is provided the names and immediate access to the students most in need. 3) School liaisons obtain parents’ consent, issue the backpacks, and notify LOP of the progress of the program at their school.

Ms. Powell is the liaison for Nourish the Need at Feldwood Elementary School. She enjoys observing the students’ reactions when they receive the food. Her experiences working with the children and our program are captured on page 12 of our annual report. https://www.lopprograms.org/annual-report

LOP’s and our partner’s mission units in pursuit of a common goal. The school is invested to improve the academic outcomes of the students. Children cannot learn if they are hungry. Our partners in action are the catalyst for the program’s success. We are honored to work with our partners and hope to do so for years to come.
