LOP Community Food Distribution
A Mobile Food Pantry Program
Land of Promise (LOP) is dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves access to sufficient food. Food insecurity can stem from numerous factors, such as limited financial resources and insufficient transportation options.
To address this challenge, LOP has created the Community Food Distribution Program, which operates as a mobile food pantry. This initiative aims to reduce food insecurity by enhancing access to fresh and staple foods for families in need within their local communities. LOP mobile food pantry adopts a client choice model, allowing program participants to select their own food items instead of receiving pre-packed bags. This method promotes relationship-building between staff, volunteers, and clients through meaningful interactions and reduces food waste. LOP accomplishes this by choosing the top 2-3 sites for our food distribution, strategically located where most of our clients reside. Mobility enables LOP to serve all designated locations within a single day.
Grady Memorial Hospital, the public hospital in Atlanta, states, “South Fulton County is a heavily marginalized area that is medically, economically, and socially underserved.” According to Feeding America, African American communities are disproportionately affected by hunger. In fact, in 2023, 22% of African Americans in the United States experienced food insecurity, a rate that is more than double that of white individuals. Furthermore, inflation poses a significant additional threat to food security. The cities served by LOP in South Fulton—City of South Fulton, College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Palmetto, and Union City—are all impacted by these statistics.

Collaboration plays a crucial role in identifying food-insecure families who are in the greatest need. While it might seem that LOP selects the clients we serve, this is not the case. We wish we could assist everyone, but to effectively reach those most in need, we work closely with community partners. Our network includes social workers, government agencies, and nonprofits that have vetted our clients.
LOP thank God for the vision of our Community Food Distribution Program that is scheduled to launch in March 2025. Your prayers and support are appreciated.
