Caring Hands, Committed Hearts
If the opportunity presented itself to make a difference in the community, gain satisfaction and obtain a sense of purpose, would you take it? You can by volunteering. Volunteers take these opportunities every day and perform these duties out of the care and concern they have for people, their community or the mission they serve. Volunteers are a tremendous resource for charitable nonprofits.
According to the National Council of Nonprofits, 85% of all charities have no employees. President Obama said, “Volunteers help drive our country's progress, and day in and day out, they make extraordinary sacrifices to expand promise and possibility.”
At Land of Promise (LOP) volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. We could not accomplish our goals without them. Our volunteers provide caring hands and committed hearts: packing backpacks, providing technical support, editing scripts, graphic design, enhancing social media development, loading/unloading supplies, and providing financial assistance and leadership. This enables LOP to do activities that might not otherwise be afforded to us.
Corporations are expressing the importance of volunteering. They are inviting their employees to clear their calendars for volunteering opportunities. They are offering to pay employees to volunteer in their communities, and they are providing employees the option to donate financial support through payroll deduction.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all of Land of Promise volunteers for their service, dedication and caring about people struggling with food insecurity. Winston Churchill said it best, “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give."
